Specification

Cyclen, an analog of aza-crown ethers, serves as a precursor for the preparation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents. It is also an intermediate for the synthesis of effective macrocyclic chelates, such as those used in the synthesis of contrast agents for brain and spinal cord MRI imaging. These contrast agents enable accurate determination of the precise location of tumors and other lesions.

Cyclen is an important precursor for synthesizing other complex molecules, especially in pharmaceutical synthesis and materials science. For example, it can be used to prepare DOTA derivatives, which have applications in radiolabeling and targeted therapy with promising prospects.

In supramolecular chemistry, Cyclen, as a macrocyclic tetraamine, can form stable complexes with metal ions, which are used for studying molecular recognition and supramolecular chemistry.

Cyclen is used as a catalyst in the Henry reaction (nitroalkane reaction). This reaction, which is used in organic synthesis, is useful for forming carbon-carbon bonds and is particularly valuable for the synthesis of complex organic molecules.
